Dear Neighbor,

The Neighborhood Watch has been working together over the past year to create an organization dedicated to fostering security and good relations among residents of our beautiful and historic neighborhood.

Our accomplishments this year include:

*   Formalizing the largest Block Watch in the City, with a permanent organizational structure and 10 Block Watch representatives, who agreed to act as a first point of contact for neighborhood concerns.  Come meet with your neighbors on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Wilson Elementary School Library (911 W. 25th).

*   Sponsoring the largest and most organized “National Night Out Again Crime” Block Party in Spokane last August 2007! (We were nominated to the national organization.)

*   Opening lines of communication with several neighborhood landlords to report chronic disturbances which resulted in eviction notices.

*   Coordinating with the local Community Oriented Policing Stations (C.O.P.S.) to improve neighborhood security.

We have created a monthly Block Watch email newsletter which features a neighborhood map, helpful contact information and links to local law enforcement websites, which contain a wealth of local crime information.  We are also looking at additional ways to improve neighborhood security, such as improved lighting, signage and better coordination with the Spokane Police Department, which will be adding new neighborhood-based officers in the next two years.

We at the Block Watch are looking forward to continuing to improve neighborhood relations in 2008.  We hope you will share our optimism and join in our endeavor.
