Spokane C.O.P.S. Sponsors A Successful National Night Out Against Crime 2011

Neighborhoods in Spokane, WA Gave Crime a HUGE Going Away Party!

Neighborhoods, community organizations, youth organizations, apartment complexes, and businesses throughout Spokane joined forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the Annual “National Night Out Against Crime” (NNO) Crime and Drug Prevention event.

NNO, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch NATW) and co-sponsored locally by Spokane C.O.P.S., involves over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 35.2 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime”. NNO is supported in part by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Spokane’s neighborhoods, apartment communities, mobile home parks, organizations, and businesses stepped up BIG TIME this year by hosting a variety of special events such as a block party, cookouts, ice cream social, youth activities, visits from McGruff, police and fire departments, city officials, and more.

A heart-felt thank you to all of our neighbors that put in a tremendous amount of time in hosting a Night Out party.  Check out Spokane C.O.P.S. Facebook page and see some of the great comments from our party hosts.  It is special beyond words that so many of Spokane’s citizens take such personal pride in their neighborhoods and make that concerted effort to know their neighbors.  That’s what it’s all about!

Each party I attended had special visits by police, fire, Dept. of Corrections officers, city officials, and a host of other VIPs.  From the responses I have received from our party hosts, the appreciation, interest, amazement, and a bit of awe on the party attendees faces said it all.  Spokane really does care about it’s citizens!

Thank you again to all that participated in Spokane’s Night Out Against Crime 2011.  This success simple would not have happened without everyone’s involvement.  I’m proud to call Spokane my home!

With great respect and gratitude,

Maurece Vulcano
