About Us

C.O.P.S. East originally began on East Sprague before moving to the present site of 3001 East 5th and was renamed C.O.P.S. Haven.  The shop has been on East 5th for ten years as of August 15, 2004 and is known as East Central C.O.P.S.  The boundary lines of East Central Extend north to Trent and south to 17th, east to Havana and west to Division.  The Neighborhood Resource Officer (NRO) and the Code Enforcement Officer also service beyond the designated area to the Chief Garry Park vicinity and Park Water neighborhood.  Code Enforcement services to 29th Street.

Two years after opening on East 5th, two officers from the Department of Corrections became a part of the working staff, followed by a code enforcement officer.  Our new NRO is Officer Shaney Redmon.  There has been three presidents, Tom Bernard, Marian Zoesch and the now active President Lois D'Ewart.

In addition to the regular shop activities East Central has a Neighborhood Observation Patrol (NOP) program and Block Watch.  There is participation at the Perry Street Fair in July and Unity in the Community at Liberty Park in August.  The C.O.P.S. Shop also works with the East Central Steering Committee in doing an annual neighborhood cleanup.

Services

We at East Central have worked hard again this year!  Previous NRO Bill Schaber, Code Enforcement Officer Scott Emerson and CCOs Matt Shanks and Chris Schilling have worked hand-in-glove this last year to clean up numerous trouble spots in the neighborhood.  Our garbage pick-up program was a huge success this year thanks to Paul Cramer.  We worked at the “Perry Street Fair” and “Unity in the Community” last summer.  At Christmas, we supplied dinner to two families in our neighborhood and made a donation to Angel Ministries who purchase gifts for children whose parents are in jail. Also, we distributed 1500 stuffed animals to 817 families in the neighborhood as part of our Stuffed Animals for Love project.
