About Us

Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane still has the only C.O.P.S. Shop located in a high school—and run by high schools students—in the country! It was instigated in 2002 by the innovative, forward-thinking LC English teacher, Lynn Bain, who had previously been a police officer.

Services

The first semester in every school year, which starts in September, of course, is always a little sparse of our most prized assets—our C.O.P.S. Shop interns. That’s because the seniors have just graduated in June and left the juniors to bear the torch until the second semester when additional students, having completed a semester of Criminal Justice, enter the ranks as trainee interns.

Be that as it may, current interns have found the amount of graffiti under the freeway, where LC has its parking lots, much increased from last year. Though we currently only have three or four interns, they grab the bucket of gray paint and a couple wide paint brushes and reclaim the parking lots for law-abiding people. They also assist the security officer patrolling for safety issues among our 2000+ population. As our ranks increase at the end of January, so will our patrolling area increase to beyond the walls of LC and into the neighborhood.

Fundraisers

Because the Spokane School District has gone on a health-kick this year, we—at LC C.O.P.S. Shop, can no longer fund our needs through biweekly donut sales. We are currently wracking our brains for alternate means of providing an income. So far, we haven’t come up with anything that has the mouth-watering appeal of nice fresh donuts.
