About Us
Although C.O.P.S. North Central was started in 1995, with meetings held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, the official opening date was not until March 8, 1997, at 630 West Shannon Avenue. An Anniversary “Open House” is held in March of each year.
Our mission: Assist the Spokane Police Department in providing services to the Emerson-Garfield neighborhood for the betterment of the entire Spokane community.
Our Objectives are:
- Substantial reduction in crime in the neighborhood.
- Develop programs to assist the community in providing security and the prevention of crime.
- Build and maintain effective community relations and communications between the police and community.
- Educate the community about the municipal ordinances governing junk and disabled vehicles, abandoned housing and illicit dumping of garbage.
- Provide and promote comprehensive safety and drug awareness programs in the community.
- Promote the necessity for individual and collective community responsibility for the promotion of lawful and beneficial goals to the community.
Services
C.O.P.S. North Central has been serving the Emerson-Garfield Neighborhood since 1997! We are the main site for the city’s Operation Family ID Program, which corresponds with the county’s Amber Alert. Our volunteers will fingerprint and take a digital photo of your children to be put in an ID packet. During 2003, we expanded more into our neighborhoods through ‘Gang Forums’, distributing Sex Offender Flyers, Meth Watch and by helping to rid our area of abandoned cars. Along with our NRO Dave Staben, we have a team of CCOs, Scott Wright and Erik Phillips, at our site!
